KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Gymnastics Federation (MGF) is planning to appoint former national rhythmic gymnasts Koi Sie Yan and Izzah Amzan as assistant coaches for the national team next year.
MGF vice-president Petrina Low said former Commonwealth Games medallists Izzah and Sie Yan would be hired on a part-time basis as they are still studying in institutions of higher learning.
“We are still in discussions and both of them are keen to join MGF.
“We are offering them the job based on their experience as national gymnasts,” she told Bernama after a Sports Working Committee meeting with the National Sports Council in Bukit Jalil here today.
Petrina said Izzah and Sie Yan would fill the vacancies left by two foreign coaches, Dr Svetlana Mekantsishvili from Georgia and Lidia Legotina from Russia, whose contracts had expired.
She said MGF would hire a new coach from Russia next year to strengthen the coaching line-up.
At the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, Sie Yan won three silvers, in the team event together with Izzah and Amy Kwan Dict Weng, and individual ball and clubs, and bronze in individual ribbon.
Izzah also won bronze in individual clubs in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.–Bernama
