Arteta demands courage from Arsenal after title wobble

Mikel Arteta rallies Arsenal to play with courage and conviction after a surprise defeat, as they target success in four competitions.

MIKEL Arteta has promised Arsenal will play with “courage and conviction” for the rest of the season after a surprise defeat slowed their Premier League title charge.

The Gunners remain four points clear at the top despite Sunday’s 3-2 home loss to Manchester United.

Arteta said the squad’s reaction in reflection had been “excellent” and encouraging.

“We have earned the right to be in a great position in four competitions,” the manager stated at a pre-match press conference.

He vowed the team would now play with enjoyment and a winning mindset.

“In the next four months, we are going to live and play with enjoyment, with a lot of courage and with the conviction that we are going to win it,” Arteta said.

Arsenal host Kazakhstan’s Kairat Almaty in the Champions League on Wednesday.

They have already secured a last-16 place with seven wins from seven games in Europe.

The match is a chance to complete the tournament’s league phase with a perfect record.

William Saliba and Jurrien Timber are unavailable due to “slight niggles” for the European fixture.

Mikel Merino and Declan Rice are also suspended for the game.
