Ex-Spurs legend slams club’s ‘lack of quality and management’

Former Tottenham star Edgar Davids warns the club faces a tough relegation battle, citing a lack of quality and poor management as the root causes.

FORMER Tottenham Hotspur star Edgar Davids has delivered a damning verdict on his old club’s disastrous season, warning they face a tough battle to avoid relegation and condemning a “lack of quality and a lack of management”.

The fallen London giants sit in the Premier League relegation zone, two points from safety with just five matches remaining in a campaign that has seen them employ three different managers.

Davids, speaking at the announcement of the Hong Kong Football Festival, acknowledged the recent appointment of Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi as a positive step but expressed deep concern for the club’s top-flight future.

When asked by AFP how Tottenham had ended up in such a predicament, the former Netherlands international midfielder offered a blunt assessment, stating, “It’s very obvious, if you pay peanuts, you get… It’s a lack of quality and a lack of management”.

The 53-year-old, who played for Spurs in the 2005-2006 season, argued the club should have strengthened its injury-hit squad during the winter transfer window to address obvious deficiencies.

Davids noted that while he hopes Tottenham survive and believes hiring De Zerbi was a good move, the club’s failure to act decisively in the transfer market has made their task extremely difficult.

Tottenham, who have not won a league match since late December, face a crucial trip to already-relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend as they fight for their Premier League status.
