Guardiola reaffirms commitment to Man City amid Maresca links

Pep Guardiola insists he will see out his Manchester City contract as speculation grows over Enzo Maresca’s talks to succeed him.

LONDON: Pep Guardiola has reiterated his commitment to seeing out his contract at Manchester City, despite reports linking his former assistant Enzo Maresca with the job.

The City manager’s current deal runs until the end of the 2026/27 season.

Speculation intensified after Maresca left his role as Chelsea manager, with reports suggesting his departure followed talks with City.

Guardiola praised Maresca as an “incredible, incredible manager” and person.

He stated his intention to remain at the Etihad Stadium for now.

“I have a contract,” Guardiola said. “I said a thousand million times. It’s 10 years here, I will leave one day but I have a contract. I’m happy.”

He highlighted the support from the club’s hierarchy during a difficult period last season.

Title-chasing City dropped points in a 0-0 draw at Sunderland, leaving them four points behind leaders Arsenal.

They host Chelsea next, who will be under the interim charge of under-21s coach Calum McFarlane.

Guardiola admitted uncertainty about facing a Chelsea side in managerial flux.

“We don’t know what the opponent’s going to be like because we don’t know which manager will be sitting (on the bench),” he said.
