Liverpool agree Jacquet deal, Palace sign Strand Larsen on deadline day

Liverpool agree a £60 million deal for Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, while Crystal Palace sign Jorgen Strand Larsen for a club-record £48 million.

LIVERPOOL were set to sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet on the Premier League’s transfer deadline day.

The Reds reportedly agreed a fee rising to £60 million for the 20-year-old French centre-back.

Jacquet will not join the Premier League champions until the summer despite Liverpool’s urgent need for defensive reinforcements.

He had been linked with Chelsea but was reportedly deterred by the competition for places in their squad.

Liverpool are desperately short at centre-back, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate their only fit senior options.

The French under-21 international has made just 31 appearances for Rennes.

Liverpool will pay an initial £55 million, with a further £5 million in potential add-ons.

Crystal Palace completed the club-record £48 million signing of Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

The Norway forward signed a four-and-a-half-year contract at Selhurst Park.

Palace moved for Strand Larsen after believing Jean-Philippe Mateta was about to join AC Milan.

Mateta was omitted from Palace’s squad for their draw at Nottingham Forest in anticipation of the move.

The proposed transfer to Serie A collapsed on Monday due to medical concerns over a knee injury.

“A source told AFP that AC Milan requested further tests on his knee, and they did not provide the necessary assurances to finalise the transfer.”

Chelsea recalled defender Mamadou Sarr from his loan spell at Strasbourg.

The 20-year-old Senegal international was reunited with Blues boss Liam Rosenior, his former manager in France.

Sarr has made just one appearance for Chelsea, coming off the bench in a Club World Cup match last July.

Chelsea defender Axel Disasi is due to have a medical at West Ham ahead of a loan move.

The 27-year-old Frenchman last played for Chelsea in January 2025.

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips joined Championship side Sheffield United on loan.
