Paris Saint-Germain win a dramatic French Champions Trophy 4-1 on penalties after a 2-2 draw with rivals Marseille in Kuwait.
KUWAIT CITY: Paris Saint-Germain defeated Marseille on penalties to claim the French Champions Trophy in a dramatic final.
Goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier saved two spot-kicks as PSG won the shootout 4-1 after a frantic 2-2 draw in regulation time.
Desire Doue converted the decisive penalty after Chevalier denied efforts from Matt O’Riley and Hamed Traore.
PSG took an early lead through Ousmane Dembele’s deft chip over goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.
Rulli then prevented Nuno Mendes from doubling the advantage minutes later.
Chevalier showcased his own skills by denying Emerson’s goal-bound shot after half an hour.
He was crucial again near the hour mark, somehow keeping out Igor Paixao’s header.
A clumsy challenge by Chevalier conceded a penalty with 15 minutes remaining.
Mason Greenwood calmly converted the spot-kick after VAR confirmation to level the score.
Marseille then took a 2-1 lead in the 87th minute through a defensive mix-up involving Willian Pacho.
Goncalo Ramos equalised in the fifth minute of injury time to force penalties.
“When you go 2-1 down in the 85th minute, you wonder if something’s not right,” Chevalier told broadcaster Ligue1+.
He added, “I knew that if it went to penalties, we were going to win because I was so determined today to make the team win.”
The match was largely boycotted by fans due to travel costs to Kuwait.
A banner at Marseille’s stadium last week read, “FCT 2026 in Kuwait. And for 2027, on the moon?”
PSG’s record-extending 14th trophy in this competition came after winning both domestic cups last season.
Marseille qualified as league runners-up, finishing 19 points behind PSG in the 2024/25 season.
Both teams now refocus on domestic and European commitments next week.
