Strasbourg coach Liam Rosenior says there is “nothing concrete” in reports linking him to the Chelsea job, focusing on his current club’s Ligue 1 campaign
STRASBOURG coach Liam Rosenior has dismissed reports linking him with the vacant managerial position at Chelsea.
Speaking after his team’s 1-1 Ligue 1 draw at Nice, Rosenior said there was “nothing concrete” regarding the speculation. “I want to focus on Strasbourg and not other things at the moment,” the 41-year-old told reporters.
“That’s all the information I can give you today. We don’t know what will be done tomorrow, but at the moment, there’s nothing concrete,” he added.
Rosenior, who guided Strasbourg to a seventh-placed finish last season, has been tipped to replace Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge. Maresca left his role in charge of Chelsea on Thursday.
The draw leaves Rosenior’s Strasbourg seventh in the table without a league win since November 9. The Alsatian club is owned by Chelsea’s parent company BlueCo.
On the pitch, Argentina forward Joaquin Panichelli opened the scoring for the visitors with a 13th-minute penalty. New signing Elye Wahi claimed a point for Nice just after the hour mark.
Wahi, who joined on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, scored in Claude Puel’s first game back in charge. Puel replaced Franck Haise earlier in the week with Nice struggling near the relegation zone.
The 64-year-old Frenchman, who previously managed Nice between 2012 and 2016, has taken over a team with issues on and off the field. Their only win since late October came in a French Cup victory over Saint-Etienne in December.
In other Ligue 1 action, Lyon beat Monaco 3-1 to maintain their European hopes. Rennes moved to within two points of Lille in the final Champions League qualifying spot with a 2-0 win over their hosts.
