South Korea tightened their grip on the girls’ team title while Japan edged ahead in the boys’ standings after the second round of the Selangor International Junior Golf Championship at Seri Selangor Golf Club.
Despite a two-hour rain delay and persistent showers that softened the course, players produced a flurry of low scores heading into the final round.
Powered by a three-under-par 69 from You Roha, South Korea stretched their lead in the girls’ team event to a commanding 23 shots on a 36-hole total of 434, with Jeon Yuhyun (70) and Park Hyorin (71) also counting.
Thailand sit a distant second on 457, followed by Japan on 463, while the MGA National Junior Development Program team is fourth. Individually, Park leads the girls’ standings on two-under-par 142, four shots clear of You, crediting solid putting in tough, wet conditions.
In the boys’ team category, Japan moved one shot clear on 430 thanks to a brilliant six-under-par 66 from Koshin Nagasaki, supported by Kouta Inoue and Sakutoshi Yamazaki. South Korea are close behind on 431, with Thailand third on 437. Nagasaki also tops the boys’ individual leaderboard on eight-under-par 136, four shots ahead of China’s Shijun Jing and Korea’s Kang Geon.
Elsewhere, Japan’s Daichi Hayashi rebounded from an opening 80 with a superb 66 to climb into joint 12th, highlighting the depth of talent on show. The championship, featuring 115 players aged 12 to 19 from 11 countries, was cut to the top teams and leading individuals after 36 holes.
Organized by UUM International School Melaka with the MGA and backed by the Selangor State Government, the event continues to serve as a key platform for developing junior golf talent, with added incentive of a spot at the upcoming PKNS Selangor Masters.
