Malaysian bowlers Izzat and Soufi reach World Bowls quarter-finals

Malaysian lawn bowlers Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple and Soufi Rusli advance to the World Bowls Championship men’s singles quarter-finals.

KUALA LUMPUR: National lawn bowlers Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple and Soufi Rusli have advanced to the men’s singles quarter-finals at the World Bowls Championship.

Izzat Shameer topped Group 4 with four victories from his five matches in the group stage.

Soufi Rusli secured his quarter-final spot by finishing second in his group with three wins from five outings.

Both Malaysian athletes expressed satisfaction with reaching the last eight but emphasised their mission remains incomplete.

“Our target has not been achieved yet because reaching the quarter-finals does not guarantee a medal,” Izzat Shameer told reporters.

He added they would strive to qualify for the semi-finals to secure a podium finish.

Meanwhile, the national women’s pair of Emma Firyana Saroji and Nurul Alyani Jamil saw their campaign end in the group stage.

The Malaysian duo finished fifth in their group with just one victory from their five matches. – Bernama
