Malaysia Airlines has entered a landmark partnership with the Mumbai Indians, India’s most successful and widely followed cricket team, as Associate Sponsor and Official Global Airline Partner.
The collaboration forms part of the airline’s strategy to drive sports-led brand and commercial growth while strengthening its presence in India, a key growth market.
The partnership was launched in Mumbai with the release of 100 Wau Bulan kites at Jio World Gardens during Makar Sankranti, symbolising cultural unity through sport and travel. Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene and club representatives were present at the ceremony.
MAG Group Managing Director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail said the partnership provides Malaysia Airlines access to a highly engaged global audience, noting the airline operates 80 weekly flights to 10 Indian cities. He said combining world-class cricket with Malaysian Hospitality would help boost brand loyalty, tourism and trade ties between Malaysia and India.
With a global fan base of over 55 million, Mumbai Indians offer Malaysia Airlines a strong engagement platform. Planned activations include fan engagements, co-branded experiences, merchandise and player appearances, alongside continued promotion of the Bonus Side Trip programme and support for Visit Malaysia 2026 to drive inbound travel.
