Malaysia divers clinch two golds on final day of SEA Games 2025

Yong Rui Jie and Nurqayyum Nazmi win men’s synchro springboard gold, leading Malaysia’s diving team to top the medal standings in Thailand.

THE Malaysian diving team saved its best for last, securing two gold medals on the final day of competition at the SEA Games Thailand 2025.

The young pairing of Yong Rui Jie and Nurqayyum Nazmi Mohamad Nazim delivered a polished performance to win the men’s three-metre synchronised springboard event.

They scored an impressive 359.85 points at the Aquatic Centre, Assumption University Suvarnabhumi Campus, comfortably ahead of Thailand’s silver medallists and Vietnam’s bronze winners.

Rui Jie said the victory was a full redemption after his bronze-medal finish in the men’s one-metre springboard earlier in the week.

“This is definitely 100% redemption of what happened last Wednesday,” he told reporters.

Nurqayyum credited his partner for helping him stay calm under pressure before the competition.

“We are so happy … but we will definitely do much better in the next SEA Games in Malaysia,” he said.

Malaysia’s first diving gold of the Games came earlier in the day from Nur Eilisha Rania Muhammad Abrar Raj and Nurul Farisya Alia Affendi in the women’s synchronised platform.

With these results, Malaysia topped the diving medal table with two golds from the four events contested.

Singapore finished second, followed by Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.

The SEA Games Thailand 2025 concludes on December 20 across Bangkok and Chonburi provinces.
