Malaysia will host the Asian Water Polo U18 Championship and the 48th SEA Age Group Aquatic Championships in 2026, boosting youth sports development.

MALAYSIA has secured the hosting rights for two major aquatic championships in 2026.

The country will stage the Asian Water Polo Championship (Under 18) and the 48th SEA Age Group Aquatic Championships.

Malaysia Aquatics (MAS) announced the Asian Water Polo Championship will be held from March 9-15, 2026.

The event will take place at the National Aquatic Centre in Bukit Jalil.

This marks the first time Malaysia will host this Asia Aquatics-sanctioned youth tournament.

The championship will also serve as the Asian qualification event for the World Aquatics Championships (Under 18).

“Hosting this event highlights Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to developing water polo and providing international exposure for young athletes across the continent,” MAS said in a statement.

The 48th SEA Age Group Aquatic Championships will feature four disciplines: swimming, water polo, diving, and artistic swimming.

MAS stated the regional event is crucial for developing the next generation of aquatic athletes.

It also strengthens collaboration among Southeast Asian nations.

Hosting both events reinforces Malaysia’s commitment to youth development pathways.

It aims to enhance competitive opportunities for athletes from Asia and Southeast Asia.

The events will also raise Malaysia’s profile in the global aquatic community.

“Malaysia Aquatics will work closely with Asia Aquatics, SEA federations, and domestic partners to ensure the successful delivery of both events,” the statement added.

Further details and schedules will be announced in due course. – Bernama
