KUANTAN: PDRM FC (PDRM)’s ability to stay focused throughout 90 minutes of the game powered them to defeat Sri Pahang FC 3-2 in yesterday’s Super League action.
Head coach Ahmad Yunus Mohd Alif said his team’s success started when they were able to equalise 1-1 even though Sri Pahang scored first early in the match.
“From there we did not stop but continued to raise the level of the game until we got two more goals.
“After leading by three goals we remained focused and acted as a team to control the match and defend the result,“ he said at the press conference after the match at the Darul Makmur Stadium here.
In the match, the home team opened the scoring in the seventh minute through their forward Kpah Sean Sherman before The Cops managed to equalise through a penalty by Bruno Junichi Suzuki in the 35th minute.
PDRM midfielder Dzulfahmi Abdul Hadi scored the team’s second goal in the 42nd minute before Bruno scored their third four minutes later.
Tok Gajah’s second goal was scored through a penalty kick by defender Stefano Brundo in the 67th minute.
Ahmad Yunus said PDRM players were calm despite several tense incidents during the game which also contributed to the positive result.
“There were some provocations during the match… (But) PDRM players are used to facing situations like this and we can see how they play as a team with full of passion,“ he said.
Meanwhile, Sri Pahang FC manager Fandi Ahmad described the lack of strategic discipline among the players as one of the reasons why they were punished with defeat.
“We follow their pace, although we should be calm and focused. It is this weakness that causes the lost of discipline in the team while some players did not play well..
“In the second half after scoring the second goal, we appeared to be too aggressive and forgot team work while our opponents kept their cool,“ he said. –Bernama
