Two events in Jeddah strengthen relationship between Asia, world football – Hamidin

KUALA LUMPUR: Two football events, namely the FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) Football Summit and the third Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Executive Committee (Exco) meeting, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, can strengthen the relationship between Asian and world football.

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, who is also a member of the FIFA council, is optimistic that the relationship between Asian and world football will grow closer, as the two events are held in conjunction with the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup, which started on Dec 12 and is scheduled to end today.

“For me, these two events can strengthen the relationship between Asian and world football, as they are both held in Jeddah in conjunction with the FIFA Club World Cup and the FIFA Football Summit,” he said, in a post on FAM’s Facebook page, today.

Hamidin, an AFC executive committee member, said that the AFC exco meeting also approved the formation of the AFC Reform Taskforce for good governance.

Apart from the World Football Summit and the AFC Exco meeting, Hamidin also attended the FIFA council meeting on Sunday (Dec 17), also held in Jeddah.

Among the matters decided during the meeting were confirming the FIFA Club World Cup, now known as Mundial de Clubes FIFA, with the participation of clubs from six confederations – Africa, Asia, Europe, North & Central America and Caribbean, South America and Oceania – effective in 2025, which sees the United States as the host.

The meeting also decided that Chile will host the 2025 Under-20 (U-20) World Cup, while Poland will host the 2026 Women’s U-20 World Cup.

The 2022/2023 European Champions League winners, Manchester City, will take on Fluminense, the 2023 Copa Libertadores winners, from Brazil, in the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup final, at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, today. – Bernama
