MAXIM E-hailing Malaysia has strengthened its commitment to inclusivity and community empowerment through a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Society of the Blind Malaysia (SBM), providing free rides and essential support to the visually impaired community.
The MoU signing ceremony, held on October 22, brought together representatives from both organisations and media members to witness the partnership launch. The event featured a symbolic cheque handover and a sharing session highlighting Maxim’s ongoing efforts in driver safety, community outreach, and corporate social responsibility.
Breaking Down Transportation Barriers
Under the partnership, Maxim Malaysia is providing free e-hailing rides to SBM and its members, enabling them to travel safely and conveniently for daily activities, medical appointments, and community events. This initiative aims to reduce transportation barriers often faced by the blind community and ensure they have equal access to mobility solutions.
In addition to the free rides, Maxim donated food bank packages to 163 SBM members, reflecting its continued dedication to community welfare and social care. The company believes that small but consistent acts of support can make a lasting difference in improving quality of life for underserved groups.
Community Response and Government Appeal
Mohd Mustaza Bin Mohamad Zin, President of the Society of the Blind Malaysia, expressed gratitude for the initiative whilst calling for broader systemic support.
“The Society of the Blind Malaysia sincerely thanks Maxim Malaysia for supporting persons with visual disabilities through fare assistance and the distribution of essential food items to our elderly members in the Klang Valley. We truly appreciate this meaningful effort, which reflects the Malaysian spirit of care and inclusivity in improving the wellbeing of our community,“ said Mohd Mustaza.
He also welcomed Maxim’s fare subsidy initiative, noting that e-hailing services have greatly improved mobility and independence for the visually impaired community. He expressed hope that the government would consider introducing a monthly e-hailing subsidy for persons with disabilities and encourage more organisations to follow Maxim’s example in supporting the visually impaired community across Malaysia.
Empowerment Through Accessibility
Mohd Hazwan Musley, Director of Maxim Malaysia, emphasised that the initiative is part of the company’s broader mission to build a more inclusive and compassionate society through technology and partnership.
“Mobility should be accessible to everyone. By offering free e-hailing rides to members of SBM, this MoU is more than a formal agreement – it is a symbol of our shared belief that accessibility should be a right, not a privilege,“ said Mohd Hazwan.
“We hope this collaboration will empower the blind and visually impaired community to move freely, participate actively, and feel supported by the society around them. At Maxim, we believe that when we make our services more inclusive, we make our communities stronger. This initiative is not just about transportation; it’s about empowerment, dignity, and inclusion. Maxim is proud to stand alongside SBM in creating equal opportunities for all.”
Building an Inclusive Future
Through this collaboration, Maxim Malaysia continues to uphold its values of safety, accessibility, and social responsibility, working hand-in-hand with non-governmental organisations and community groups to foster positive, lasting change.
