IT was a little more than a year ago when Resorts World Genting opened its indoor theme park, Skytropolis, and the unique mixed reality experience, The Void. This year, the resort in the sky opens the doors to Sky VR, just in time for the holiday season.

Harnessing the latest in virtual reality technology, Sky VR features five new big attractions. These experiences come from all over the world and vary in levels from the family-friendly XD Theater, to the thrilling Robocoster.

The XD Theater is part motion 3D cinema and part shooting gallery and is the perfect introductory to Sky VR. Whole families and even large groups of friends can experience the thrill and compete for the highest score.

With polarised 3D glasses and blasters in hand, guests can shoot evil clowns in a horror themed Carnival or fight robots in Robo Riot with more coming soon. Players are ranked at the end of the game.

Try Carnival if you’re brave enough. It is full of thrills and surprises, and not to mention, creepy.

The experience is developed by TrioTech in Canada and is the largest attraction of its kind in Malaysia.

SkyGlider VR is no ordinary paragliding simulator. The whole rig was designed to simulate the real paragliding experience. First-timers are recommended to try it on easy. Those who are prone to motion sickness, you are going to feel this one.

Developed by FrontGrid, SkyGlider VR is highly recommended and is the first of its kind in Malaysia.

The Vortex is a state-of-the-art motion platform. Developed by Brogent in Taiwan, Vortex takes up to 12 guests on a virtual adventure. It is also a first-of-its-kind in Asia. Experience ranges from the relaxing and passive sit down exploration, or an action-packed shoot-em-up where riders are equipped with a blaster in hand.

For the truly adventurous, there are the VirtuGlobe and RoboCoaster.

Created by Ray Latypov in the USA, VirtuGlobe lets guests step into a free-moving VR environment. The technology has been used by military agencies worldwide to train their personnel to operate in any possible environment.

RoboCoaster, created by Sangwha in South Korea, looks like four seats attached to a giant robot arm. As you can imagine, up to four guests can experience a VR roller coaster on this ride.

“With the addition of Sky VR, Genting Theme Park is unique in the sense that it now offers the widest range of rides and experiences all in one place,” said Sanjay M Nadarajah, Genting Theme Park Vice President.
