HELP University played its part in celebrating World Tourism Day recently

HELP University recently celebrated the World Tourism Day at its Subang2 campus with 120 participants, consisting of VIP guests, guest speakers, lecturers and students from the School of Hospitality and Tourism (SHOT).

An international event held annually by the tourism industry all over the world, World Tourism Day was celebrated on Sep 27 last year, with a purpose in fostering awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.

In his opening speech during the launch of HELP University’s World Tourism Day 2019, HELP University Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Dr. Khong remarked on how the demand for tourism and travel has sparked a myriad of interest from all over the world. ”The hospitality industry will continue to grow as the infrastructure to support this industry will also continue to grow as well” he said.

During the “Tourism & Jobs: A Better Future For All” panel talk by invited industry leaders in the tourism and hospitality management sector, OXFORD Centre for Leadership Asia Pacific Deputy President John Chan spoke on the misconceptions that anyone who studies Tourism and Hospitality will end up as just tourist guides.

Dorsett Grand Subang Area General Manager Christina Toh added on that hospitality and tourism is all about engagement and networking and without the people involved and those studying to be part of this industry, tourism would go nowhere.

Other events on the agenda included a presentation by Hospitality student Abdul Jalil Mani on the World Tourism Day and how the main purpose of the event was to increase awareness of tourism and he also shared how tourism is now an important element in any country to help sustain economic and social growth.

A guest speaker during the event, RADAK Adventure founder Mohd Hasrol Kamis spoke on how tourism trends is skewing towards outdoor and nature activities.

The World Tourism Day 2019 event then ended with a fashion show featuring SHOT students parading while adorned with international costumes from around the world.
