JAKARTA: At least 12 people died and seven others were injured when a bus flipped onto its side on a highway on Java Island on Friday, according to the West Java Police.
Spokesperson Senior Commissioner Ibrahim Tompo stated that three male and nine female bodies were taken to a hospital in Purwakarta, and those injured were transported to a nearby hospital.
The incident resulted in the complete blockage of the entire lane at the exit of the Cipali Toll interchange, causing heavy traffic congestion. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The bus driver, who sustained minor injuries, has been detained for further investigation, Ibrahim added.
The police suspect that the driver lost control of the bus, which was carrying 20 passengers from Cirebon to Jakarta. The incident occurred when the bus, allegedly travelling at a high speed, attempted to enter the exit lane, resulting in a collision with the guardrail, according to the police. -Bernama
