SEGAMAT: SENA Healthcare Services officially launched SENA Specialist Hospital Segamat, commissioning its first hospital and marking an important step in expanding access to private specialist healthcare in Malaysia’s secondary cities.
As the first and only private multidisciplinary hospital in the Segamat district, the hospital features 90 beds, including dedicated ICU and HDU units, and addresses a long-standing gap in specialist care for residents of Segamat and surrounding areas.
By bringing comprehensive services closer to home, it ensures critical care availability for complex cases while reducing the need for long-distance travel.
The official opening ceremony was co-officiated by the representative of Johor chief minister Tuan Ling Tian Soon, who is also a member of the Johor state executive council (EXCO) for Health & Environment, along with Member of Parliament for Sekijang Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.
Dr Zaliha said the commissioning of SENA Specialist Hospital Segamat marks an important step forward in strengthening Johor’s healthcare landscape and advancing Malaysia’s broader healthcare agenda.
“This facility enhances regional healthcare capacity by expanding access to specialist services outside major urban centres and supporting more timely diagnosis and treatment.
“It reflects the government’s commitment to building a more resilient, inclusive healthcare system that delivers better outcomes for communities in smaller districts such as Segamat,” she said.
SENA Specialist Hospital Segamat marks the initiation of SENA Healthcare’s long-term roadmap to commission 12 multidisciplinary hospitals under different business models, aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery across Malaysia’s secondary cities and underserved communities.
SENA Healthcare Services Founder and group managing director Tan Sri Dr Tan Boon Hock said this healthcare hub represents the foundation of the company’s vision to bring quality specialist care closer to communities that need it most.
“Strategically located to serve Segamat and surrounding areas such as Gemas, Jementah, Labis, Chaah, Bekok, Tangkak, and Muadzam Shah, SENA Segamat is the only private secondary care hospital within a 100-kilometre radius, ensuring essential access to specialised healthcare regardless of location.
“It ensures equitable access to specialist services, bringing critical care within reach of previously underserved communities,” Tan said.
The hospital is positioned to support the healthcare needs of Segamat’s growing population while easing the burden on tertiary centres in major cities.
SENA Specialist Hospital Segamat provides a comprehensive range of specialist services on its premises, bolstered by a highly skilled multidisciplinary team and state-of-the-art medical facilities, including advanced diagnostic capabilities, operating theatres, and endoscopy rooms.
Patients benefit from integrated, patient-centred care that ensures seamless coordination across specialties.

SENA Healthcare Services Group CEO Michelle Tan said that, as a healthcare provider, the company recognises its responsibility, not only to deliver quality healthcare but also to support public health initiatives and uplift the wider community.
“By bringing specialist care closer to the residents of Segamat, we can improve early detection and treatment outcomes, particularly in areas like oncology and women’s health, where timely intervention saves lives.
“This facility also helps ease pressure on public hospitals, allowing them to focus on critical cases while providing private care options for those who seek them. For families in Segamat and neighbouring districts, this hospital is a game-changer,” she said.
