Tang Jie-Ee Wei exit Malaysia Open 2026 in quarter-final thriller

Malaysian mixed doubles stars Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei lost a 67-minute quarter-final battle to Hong Kong’s Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet.

NATIONAL mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Open 2026.

The reigning world champions lost 17-21, 21-17, 10-21 to Hong Kong’s Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet at Axiata Arena.

The hard-fought encounter lasted 67 minutes before the Malaysian challenge ended.

Tang Jie said their inability to dictate an attacking tempo early in the deciding set proved costly.

“I think we tried our best, but in the start of the rubber set, we couldn’t keep up the attacking tempo in our favour,” he said.

He added that the Hong Kong pair were more experienced.

The defeat levels their head-to-head record against the Hong Kong duo at 2-2.

Their last meeting was a victory for the Malaysians at the French Open 2025 in October.

When asked about the disappointment of not repeating last year’s semi-final run, Ee Wei said it was a normal feeling.

She accepted the result as part of the sport.

Ee Wei also expressed appreciation for the fans who supported them from the tournament’s first day.

Tang Jie and Ee Wei will next compete at the India Open 2025 from January 13 to 18.
