Courier fakes delivery 40 minutes away and ‘ghosts’ customer

A woman claims a courier marked her father’s gift as delivered before disappearing, prompting a police report and online warnings

COURIER services may make life easier, but one woman was left frustrated and disappointed after a delivery rider allegedly went missing in action.

A Threads user known as @hii.pico shared that she had booked a courier service through a legitimate app to collect a gift for her father. The parcel was picked up from Seri Kembangan and was supposed to be delivered to Sepang.

Initially, the app showed the order en route. However, after waiting about 40 minutes, she noticed the rider’s location had changed and the estimated time of arrival was pushed back by another 40 minutes.

“Looking at the location, the rider was still far from the destination. Calls weren’t answered, messages were unread. In the end, we completely lost contact. The app provided proof saying the item had been delivered. On top of that, it was a gift for my father,” she wrote.

According to her post, the rider uploaded a photo of a random location as proof of delivery, despite the recipient not receiving the parcel.

“Obviously, his location was still far from the destination. How could he have arrived? And it’s not even Restaurant Mabrouk, the delivery point. I’m still waiting here. I wanted to surprise my father. I even feel like cursing,” she said.

She added that the booking was made at around 10pm, and by 12.30am, she was still waiting at the location while the rider had completely “ghosted” her.

In an attempt to locate the courier, she also posted about the incident on a Facebook page for riders under the logistics company, but received no leads, as none recognised the individual involved.

The woman later confirmed that she had lodged a police report. “I don’t know whether he took the motorcycle as well. There was a similar case in 2019. The police couldn’t track him down either,” she said.

Netizens advised her to opt for payment upon delivery in future to avoid falling victim to similar incidents.

She also reported the matter through the delivery app, but said the process has been challenging.

“They need proof of theft before they’ll allow a refund, and even then I don’t know how long the process will take or whether it will be approved,” she added.
