NATO’s Mark Rutte and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskiy discussed Russian strikes causing power outages and the need for more air defence support.

BRUSSELS: NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Thursday.

“We’re committed to ensuring that Ukraine continues to get the crucial support needed to defend today and ultimately secure a lasting peace,” he wrote.

In his own account, Zelenskiy said he discussed the “serious challenges” from the recent Russian strikes.

He emphasised the urgent need to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence systems.

Writing on Telegram, Zelenskiy expressed hope for increased supplies through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List programme in January.

The Ukrainian president noted “considerable progress” in diplomatic efforts with the United States and Europe.

He pledged not to “ease up on pace” in resolving the nearly four-year-old conflict. – Reuters
