Manchester United’s Carrick demands consistency after derby win

Interim boss Michael Carrick urges Manchester United to find consistency after a ‘fantastic’ 2-0 derby win over Manchester City

INTERIM manager Michael Carrick has challenged Manchester United to find consistency after a dream start to his reign with a 2-0 derby win over Manchester City.

Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu secured a vital victory that lifted United into fourth place in the Premier League table.

The Red Devils dominated at Old Trafford, having three goals ruled out for offside and forcing a series of saves from City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

“Great start. No getting away from that,” said Carrick. “The boys were fantastic.”

The win was just United’s second in their last eight games across all competitions.

Carrick’s side face another major test with a trip to league leaders Arsenal next week.

United have often struggled against weaker opposition this season, failing to beat Wolves, Bournemouth, West Ham and Everton at home under previous manager Ruben Amorim.

“Consistency is the key to any success,” Carrick emphasised. “If you could find that, then you’re onto a winner.”

He added that the challenge is to build on the derby performance. “That’s our challenge — we’ve got to find a way to do that. Big one next week obviously, another tough one, but on the back of today, we’ve got a good foundation.”
