The Melaka state government saves RM13.5 million a year via Bureaucratic Red Tape Reform, improving service delivery and speeding up land acquisition.

MELAKA: The state government has saved RM13.5 million annually through its Bureaucratic Red Tape Reform (RKB) initiative.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the programme has also accelerated government affairs and improved service delivery effectiveness.

He stated the RKB must translate into tangible changes, including simpler processes and faster decisions that benefit the public.

“Every existing process and procedure must be reviewed and streamlined continuously,” he said.

Ab Rauf was speaking at the 2026 New Year’s Address Ceremony at the Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh.

One key RKB project involves the Melaka Land and Mines Office and local authorities improving administrative operations.

It streamlined the land acquisition process, reducing the period from 36 months to just six months.

Ab Rauf also highlighted significant improvements in Melaka’s education sector.

A total of 118 schools were recognised as Inspirational Schools this year, up from only one the previous year.

He noted the state recorded zero focus schools under the School Reform Criteria, indicating no schools required intensive ministry monitoring.

On public feedback, Ab Rauf said 17,393 complaints were logged in the state’s management system last year.

Of these, 16,039 complaints, or 92%, were successfully resolved, with the remainder under active review.

He urged all departments to be sensitive and responsive across all public interaction platforms.

“If possible, a complaint received today must also get a response today,” he added.
