Bangladeshi man detained at KLIA over fake work pass

A Bangladeshi national was arrested at KLIA Terminal 2 for allegedly using a counterfeit Temporary Employment Visit Pass while attempting to depart for Dhaka.

KUALA LUMPUR: A Bangladeshi man has been detained for allegedly using a counterfeit work permit at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

The 39-year-old was stopped at the KLIA Terminal 2 International Departure Hall during a routine check on Thursday.

He was scheduled to board an AirAsia flight to Dhaka at 7.25 pm when authorities inspected his documents at around 4.40 pm.

The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) said the man possessed a digital Temporary Employment Visit Pass (ePASS) in his passport.

“Further verification revealed that the pass is suspected to be invalid and fake,” the agency stated in a release.

The suspect was taken to the KLIA Terminal 2 Immigration Depot for processing.

He was subsequently handed over to the AKPS Enforcement Division at KLIA for a full investigation.

The agency said the case will be pursued under the relevant laws.

AKPS reiterated its commitment to strengthening national border security.

It stated it would not compromise on any attempts to misuse travel documents or immigration passes.
