Two men arrested for impersonating immigration officers to rob a Myanmar national in Bukit Mertajam, with four more suspects still at large.
BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police have arrested two men suspected of being part of a gang that impersonated immigration officers to rob a Myanmar national.
The suspects, aged 38 and 32, were arrested in Kuala Lumpur on Jan 18 following a police operation.
Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief ACP Helmi Aris said a team raided two separate locations in Bukit Jalil and Ampang.
The 44-year-old victim reported that six men arrived at his home in Ladang Chip Jao, Bukit Tengah, on Jan 13.
“Five of the men allegedly entered the house after introducing themselves as immigration officers and conducted a search,” Helmi said.
One suspect then threatened the victim with a machete before the gang fled with valuables worth about RM4,000.
Police seized a Proton X70 believed to have been used during the robbery, along with mobile phones and clothing.
Both suspects have prior criminal and drug-related offences, and tested positive for methamphetamine.
The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code, with both suspects to be charged in court.
Police are still actively tracking down four other suspects who remain at large.
The public is urged to contact Insp Fakhrul Aiman or the nearest police station with any information.
