Lee Zii Jia breaks back into world’s top 80

National shuttler Lee Zii Jia climbs 24 places to 79th in the latest BWF world rankings, signalling a return to form after injury struggles.

PROFESSIONAL men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia has broken back into the world’s top 80.

According to the latest Badminton World Federation rankings, the former All England champion climbed 24 places to 79th with 22,440 points.

This rise comes despite a second-round exit at the Indonesia Masters 2026.

He now trails compatriot Leong Jun Hao, who remains Malaysia’s top men’s singles player at 29th.

Last week, Zii Jia showed encouraging form by snapping a 10-month winless streak.

He defeated India’s H.S. Prannoy to reach the second round in Jakarta before losing to Thailand’s Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul.

The 27-year-old has struggled with injuries in recent years, including ankle and back problems.

He made his competitive return after a 111-day hiatus at the Malaysia Open earlier this year.

In other rankings news, women’s singles player K. Letshanaa surged to 38th after reaching the Indonesia Masters semi-finals.

Newly crowned Indonesia Masters champions Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani returned to the men’s doubles top eight.

The pair moved up one spot to eighth with 71,830 points.

World champions Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik remained second in the men’s doubles rankings.

Teammates Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun stayed in sixth position.

Indonesia Masters 2026 champions Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah held their women’s doubles ranking of second.

Mixed doubles winners Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei also maintained their fourth-place position.
