Kindness abused: Woman scams by seeking QR Grab fare at LRT stations

A woman allegedly scamming commuters at LRT KLCC by asking for QR Grab fares sparks outrage and warnings online

WHEN kindness is taken for granted and exploited for scams, the empathy among the public risks fading because of individuals like this.

In a Threads post, Sabrina shared that she was approached by an Indian woman at KLCC LRT who asked for money via QR payment to take a Grab ride to Sungai Buloh. Feeling sympathetic, Sabrina agreed and made the transaction.

However, she was later shocked to see the same woman approaching other commuters with the same request. In a photo Sabrina shared, the woman, who was wearing a green hoodie was seen asking a Malay woman to QR-pay her money.

Sabrina added that the woman quickly disappeared when auxiliary police officers came around for routine patrols.

What raised further alarm was the number of people in the comments who shared similar experiences, suggesting this could be a new modus operandi used to scam unsuspecting members of the public.

“She approached me when I was heading home from work earlier, and I said, ‘I need money too, sis,’ then she just walked off without a word,” said Amira.

“This happened to me last year too. She said she had just started her internship and didn’t have money to get home. I still gave her some money, but I reminded her not to lie,” Deena shared.

“I once saw this Indian girl at KL Sentral in the same situation. She approached me asking for Grab money to get back to Putra Heights. Luckily, I didn’t give her any because she seemed a bit suspicious,” said Anis.

Another user, Ragini, urged the public to save the post and alert auxiliary police if they encountered the woman again.

One more user revealed that both she and her friend had fallen for the same story on different days and transferred money to the woman.

To further warn others, she also shared a screenshot showing the name that appeared during the QR transaction, hoping it would help prevent more people from becoming victims.

However, others shared that they were scammed by the same girl, but the name that appeared was a man’s.
