All FAM executive committee members resign, paving the way for an AFC-led internal assessment to overhaul governance and management.
PETALING JAYA: The entire Executive Committee of the Football Association of Malaysia has resigned, triggering a comprehensive review of the body’s governance and management.
All members of the FAM Exco for the 2025–2029 term submitted their immediate resignations on a collective and voluntary basis.
The unanimous decision was described as a prudent step to safeguard the association’s integrity amid public scrutiny.
This move provides an opportunity for the Asian Football Confederation to assist FAM in conducting a thorough internal assessment.
AFC Secretary-General Datuk Seri Windsor Paul John said the review will identify weaknesses and gaps in governance, management, and football administration.
“We want to identify what is weak and where the gaps are,” Windsor said at a press conference after a special FAM Exco meeting.
He stated the findings will be benchmarked against modern, internationally recognised football associations.
A special AFC team led by Deputy Secretary-General Vahid Kardany will carry out the assessment with full autonomy.
The team will present a report with recommendations for structural and policy changes to the FAM Congress.
Windsor confirmed the AFC has accepted FAM’s proposal to form an interim management team to handle daily operations.
This team will consist of the secretary-general, treasurer, and two other department heads to liaise with the AFC and FIFA.
FAM Secretary-General Datuk Noor Azman Rahman pledged the secretariat’s full cooperation with the AFC review.
“We are opening the space as widely as possible to the AFC (to review) all aspects in terms of structure, statutes, finance and administration,” he said.
