Fisheries authority channels funds for income enhancement and welfare to fishermen in Manjung Selatan through two key assistance initiatives.
MANJUNG SELATAN: The Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) has disbursed RM142,720 in assistance to 166 local fishermen.
The aid was delivered through two separate initiatives aimed at boosting income and supporting community welfare.
LKIM chairman Muhammad Faiz Fadzil said RM65,500 was channelled under the Touch Point Income Enhancement Programme to 52 fishermen.
This programme is designed to improve operational efficiency, skills, and overall catch yields.
A further RM77,220 was distributed under the Natural Disaster and Fishermen Welfare Assistance Scheme to 114 recipients.
This welfare assistance was channelled through three area fishermen’s associations.
The Matang Area Fishermen’s Association received RM24,950, PNK Sungai Tinggi received RM30,900, and PNK Manjung Utara received RM21,370.
To further empower the community, the aid package included vital fishing equipment.
This comprised two 15-horsepower outboard engines, 34 insulation boxes, and hundreds of assorted nets and crab traps.
“LKIM also hopes fishermen will be more proactive in modernising fishing techniques,” said Muhammad Faiz.
He encouraged adopting the latest fisheries technology to increase yields and strengthen sector competitiveness.

During the same event, 13 university students contributed school supplies to 10 high-achieving children from underprivileged fishing families.
The student recipients received school bags, caps, water bottles, stationery, and RM50 in cash each.
Muhammad Faiz also announced an immediate allocation of RM50,000 to upgrade the LKIM jetty at Pasir Pandak.
