CNY ‘balik kampung’ exodus leaves Shah Alam roads blissfully clear

Drivers enjoy stress-free commute in Shah Alam as many balik kampung

IT was not the “Monday blues” after all falls for those commuting to work, today, as drivers were met with surprisingly empty roads as many have already began their ‘balik kampung’ journey for the CNY holidays, this week.

In a Threads post, Azmira said that it only took her 15 minutes drive from Shah Alam to USJ this morning.

“Plenty of empty parking at USJ 9 — you can pick where to park . The traffic lights at USJ 8/9 are smooth too, no honking, no motorcycles or cars braking constantly — so calm and peaceful,” she said.

Harith Haziq shared a photo of a clear NKVE highway this morning, showing far fewer vehicles during what would normally be peak hour, much to the delight of drivers facing the Monday blues.

In a separate post, Diyana shared a video of the deserted streets in Shah Alam yesterday morning.

She joked that only thirteen people are left in Shah Alam, as the rest have fled the city by the weekend itself.

“However, in the next lane there was an accident involving four vehicles, all sandwiched into each other. Don’t speed even if there’s no one on the road, okay guys,” she added.

Diyana also advised those staying behind to enjoy the stress-free drive before the usual traffic returns.

Some users noted that the IOI i-CityCentral mall was crowded ahead of the final weekend of pre-CNY shopping, as well as the popular Section 7 textile store, Jakel, where shoppers have started picking out Hari Raya Aidilfitri outfits.

“Jakel was ‘attacked’ by Shah Alam residents because everyone in Shah Alam had left the city,” Diyana replied to one user.
