Heartwarming videos of Timor-Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao have gone viral, showing the leader’s humility as he gifted scarves and coffee before leaving Malaysia

A few short clips of the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste Xanana Gusmao are melting hearts online — showing the veteran leader personally thanking every Malaysian officer who accompanied him during his visit for the ASEAN Summit.

In the videos, Gusmao can be seen draping a traditional Timor-Leste scarf around each officer’s neck and gifting them a small bag of coffee — one of his country’s proud products.

In another touching moment, he sang “Happy Birthday” to his driver, Sergeant Riduan, before giving him a warm hug.

“The final appreciation before the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste departs. Thank you so much, sir,” said one of the officers in the TikTok post that has since gone viral.

Viewers were moved by the gesture, with one commenting, “Sergeant Riduan is lucky to receive appreciation from such a remarkable fighter and true hero of Timor-Leste — Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao.”

Another wrote, “Such a kind Prime Minister. He came as a guest but brought gifts for the hosts. Thank you so much. Malaysia will surely miss you.”

Five days in Malaysia — but he left an impression that will be remembered for years.
