“Using scissors to save stuck mee goreng?”, kitchen mishap goes viral

A man’s attempt at cooking mee goreng went viral as he used scissors like a barber when the noodles stuck to the wok

COOKING mee goreng at home seemed straightforward enough — until the noodles had other ideas. A Malaysian man’s kitchen mishap has gone viral after he resorted to some rather unconventional problem-solving when his fried noodles refused to cooperate.

Threads user shared a video of the incident, explaining that while frying mee goreng, the noodles became firmly stuck to his wok.

His first attempt at a fix involved flipping the wok entirely upside down in hopes that gravity would do the job. It did not. Undeterred, he reached for a pair of scissors and proceeded to snip at the stubborn noodles with the focused precision of a hairstylist at work.

“I wanted to cook fried mee, but it turned out like this,” he wrote, accompanying the post with a plea to some of Malaysia’s most recognisable culinary figures. “KA, help me. Chef Wan, help me,” he added, calling out popular cooking personalities for emergency assistance.

The internet, predictably, had a field day. Commenters were quick to christen the resulting dish “mee gunting” — literally, scissor noodles — while others celebrated his accidental career pivot.

“From kitchen skills to barber skills,” one user joked, while another quipped that the whole episode was “2 in 1: cook and barber.”

Not everyone was laughing at him, though. At least one netizen came to his defence with a relatable confession: “I won’t laugh at this because this exactly happened to me when I cooked mee hoon.”

The video has since made its rounds across social media platforms, earning widespread laughter and sympathy in equal measure — a reminder that even the most humble home-cooking attempts can end up as the internet’s favourite content.
