UK police set to provide details of investigation into knife attack on train

UK police probe knife attack on train; investigation ongoing as victims fight for life after shocking incident in Huntingdon.

HUNTINGDON: British police are on Sunday expected to provide further details of their investigation into a knife attack on a train which left nine people fighting for their lives, and which was described by Prime Minister Keir Starmer as “deeply concerning”.

Counterterrorism officers are supporting the investigation, the police have said, as they work to understand the full circumstances and motivation for the incident.

The BBC reported British Transport Police as saying they will hold a briefing on Sunday morning.

Two men were arrested by armed police on Saturday night after the train made an emergency stop in Huntingdon, in Cambridgeshire, eastern England, following reports of multiple stabbings on the train.

Ten people were taken to hospital, nine of those are described as having suffered what are believed to be life-threatening injuries, the police said.

Starmer said on X it was an “appalling incident”, while Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood said she was “deeply saddened” and urged people to avoid comment and speculation.

One eyewitness told Sky News that one of the suspects was waving a large knife, before being tasered by police, while another, Olly Foster, told the BBC that he was on the train when someone ran past him saying someone was stabbing “everyone, everything”.

“I put my hand on this chair…and then I look at my hand, and it’s covered in blood. And then I look at the chair, and there’s blood all over the chair. And then I look ahead and there’s blood on all the chairs,” he said.

Local lawmaker Ben Obese-Jecty called it a “truly horrific incident” and said he wanted to reassure local residents. – Reuters
