Transport Ministry studies proposal to display government subsidy amount on air tickes to Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan during festive seasons.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Ministry will study a proposal requiring airlines to display government subsidy amounts for air tickets on routes from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan during festive seasons.

Minister Anthony Loke said the ministry will discuss with airlines to find the best mechanism ensuring passengers are clearly informed of their subsidy benefits.

“Some passengers may not be aware of the substantial government subsidy provided when they purchase air tickets during festive seasons,” he told Parliament.

The ministry spent RM19.5 million to subsidise 39,744 air tickets this year, amounting to RM491 per eligible ticket.

With the subsidy, passengers pay a maximum of RM499 per ticket despite average market prices reaching RM990.

This year’s subsidy covered Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Gawai Dayak, and Kaamatan Festival, with Christmas implementation scheduled next month. – Bernama
