MFW dissolves itself following government directive to withdraw Muslim Choice initiative, apologising for causing confusion over halal status.

JOHOR BAHRU: Muslim Friendly Watch (MFW) has officially announced its dissolution under the Societies Act 1966 following controversy surrounding its Muslim Choice initiative.

The non-governmental organisation stated it has taken immediate steps to cease all operations and systems operating under its banner.

“This move reflects our obedience to the religious authorities and our awareness of the need to safeguard the welfare of the ummah and the good name of Islam in Malaysia,” the group said in a statement.

MFW acknowledged that all actions and decisions taken by authorities are based on religious interests, social harmony, and protecting Muslim community sensitivities.

“Therefore, we accept this decision with an open heart, a sense of responsibility, and humility,” the statement continued.

The dissolution process will be carried out in cooperation with the Registrar of Societies to ensure full compliance with legal procedures.

MFW also apologised to the public, particularly religious authorities, government agencies, and any individuals or entities affected by confusion or misunderstandings caused by its oversight.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar had previously directed MFW to withdraw all promotion and recognition related to Muslim Choice.

Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee clarified that Muslim Choice is not a recognised halal certification or endorsement.

Sirajuddin explained that the label’s use could mislead the public regarding the halal status of certain products or premises. – Bernama
