Kampung Jawa landowners face final WCE relocation deadline

Selangor government grants final two-week extension for 19 Kampung Jawa landowners to vacate for WCE project after all legal processes completed.

KUALA SELANGOR: All procedures have been completed for 19 landowners in Kampung Jawa, Klang, to vacate their land for the West Coast Expressway (WCE) project.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari confirmed there would be no further negotiations, particularly on compensation, as all processes including arbitration have been finalised.

“All procedures, including court and arbitration processes, have been completed,” he told reporters after officiating the Eco Grandeur Interchange on the Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR).

“The compensation was determined by the arbitrator, not the developer, and I believe it was fair and reasonable.”

Amirudin expressed hope that all parties would act responsibly to resolve the matter promptly.

He emphasized that a 150-metre stretch in Kampung Jawa should not delay the entire WCE project.

The state government has approved a final extension until November 24 to give affected residents more time to relocate.

“We’ve given a few extra days to allow them to move,” Amirudin said.

“Two weeks should be enough, as I have discussed and approved their final request for an extension.”

When asked about claims that some parties were framing the issue along racial lines, he said the government’s actions were carried out in the interest of public welfare.

The state government will provide assistance where needed during the relocation process.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi and EcoWorld president and chief executive officer Datuk Chang Khim Wah were also present at the event. – Bernama
