Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim urges vigilance in maintaining Malaysia’s unity and stability, warning against internal discord and political power struggles.

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reminded all parties not to become complacent with the nation’s progress, but to remain vigilant in safeguarding unity and harmony, which form the foundation of Malaysia’s stability.

He said that as a small yet rapidly developing nation that has attracted global attention, Malaysia must preserve its stability, spirit of unity, and good governance to ensure continued growth.

Anwar warned that threats to national peace do not only come from external sources, but may also arise from envy and internal discord among the people.

“On the positive side, Malaysia is now gaining recognition in tourism and investment.

“However, we must stay alert. History shows that no nation can survive once it becomes consumed by complacency and negligence. That is something we must remember,” he said during the Prime Minister’s Department monthly assembly here today.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Anwar stressed that Malaysia’s peace and stability should never be taken for granted, as they underpin investor confidence and social wellbeing.

“We (Malaysians) tend to take things for granted. Alhamdulillah, so far we’ve been blessed, but we must continue to preserve our harmony.

“In this context, imagine other countries with diverse racial, religious and regional compositions like Malaysia… they may appear relatively peaceful, but in reality, remain volatile and unstable,” he said.

Anwar noted that maintaining political stability and sound governance are essential for sustaining economic success and public welfare under the MADANI Economy framework.

“… what matters is governance. No matter how much wealth we have, it won’t solve our problems if it isn’t managed properly,” he added.

The prime minister also cautioned political leaders against persistent power struggles, saying such actions only undermine stability and burden the people.

“We have experienced periods of stability, followed by instability that affected the rakyat. When political manoeuvring continues endlessly, leaders become too focused on fighting each other and forget its consequences for the nation,” he said. – Bernama
