MALAYSIA’S top women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah delivered a commanding performance to reach the Kumamoto Masters quarter-finals.
The world No. 2 duo defeated South Korea’s Jeong Na Eun-Lee Yeon Woo 21-14, 21-9 in just 31 minutes at Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium.
This marked their fourth consecutive victory over the world No. 20 Korean pair.
The top seeds will face either Taiwan’s seventh seeds Hsu Yin Hui-Lin Jhih Yun or Japan’s Nanako Hara-Riko Kiyose in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s men’s singles professional Jacky Kok saw his tournament run end against experienced Japanese player Kenta Nishimoto.
Kok fell 20-22, 11-21 in his second-round match.
In women’s singles, Malaysia’s K. Letshanaa suffered a 24-22, 21-18 defeat to Taiwan’s Chiu Pin-Chian.
Malaysia’s mixed doubles pairs also exited the tournament with Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin losing to Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran 14-21, 21-12, 21-17.
Jimmy Wong-Lai Pei Jing fell to Taiwan’s Ye Hong Wei-Nicole Gonzales Chan 21-17, 21-14 in their mixed doubles encounter. – Bernama
