Police solve 10 burglary cases in Tawau with arrest of eight illegal immigrants

TAWAU: Police have managed to solve 10 burglary cases here following the arrest of eight illegal immigrants between Nov 3 and 16.

Tawau District Police chief ACP Peter Umbuas said the suspects, who are Indonesians and Filipinos aged between 19 and 36, were detained under Ops Pintu conducted by the Tawau Criminal Investigation Division.

“The arrests led police to the recovery of various items believed to have been stolen, such as household items and equipment including mobile phones worth RM35,000,“ he said in a statement today.

“The suspects’ targets are private homes, houses of worship and business premises,“ he said, adding that several of the suspects also had criminal records, including burglary, theft and drug abuse.

Meanwhile, Peter said the house break-ins crime index statistics from January to October this year showed a decline of 18% compared to the same period last year. — Bernama
