Kuching flood relief centres close as situation fully recovers

All temporary relief centres in Kuching have closed after floodwaters receded, with over 340 evacuees returning home.

KUCHING: The flood situation in Kuching has fully recovered after the two temporary relief centres in operation were closed at noon today. The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee confirmed the closures.

The centres at R-Piang Hall and Stapok Community Hall had been opened yesterday. They were closed at 12 noon today after housing evacuees from several affected villages.

At 8 am today, the R-Piang Hall centre housed 116 evacuees from 24 families. These residents were from Kampung Sinar Budi Baru.

The Stapok Community Hall centre accommodated 225 evacuees from 67 families. These individuals were residents of Kampung Desa Ria.

Several areas in Kuching city began experiencing flooding yesterday morning. This followed a period of continuous heavy rain.
