Malaysian and Jordanian students organise a Ramadan iftar for 100 Palestinian refugees, fostering joy and solidarity through games and shared meals.

PETALING JAYA: In the spirit of Ramadan, a total of 27 volunteers comprising local Jordanian students and Malaysian students from several universities across Jordan came together to organise a Ramadan Relief programme recently.

The initiative brought together 100 Palestinian refugees for a special iftar gathering at the Applied Science University (ASU) campus.

Mohammad Fathi Mohammad Nasser, a Bachelor’s degree student in Fiqh and Usul at Al al-Bayt University in Jordan said the event was organised in collaboration with the Youth of Strength and Happiness Jordan, aimed to provide not only iftar meals but also meaningful engagement with refugee children during the holy month.

“Before the breaking of fast, volunteers organised games and interactive activities for the children, creating moments of joy and laughter during the holy month of Ramadan.

“The atmosphere turned lively as the children joined in the games, with volunteers interacting, playing, and engaging them in conversations before the Maghrib call to prayer.

“One particularly touching moment occurred when a Palestinian child, smiling brightly, said: ‘This is the most delicious iftar I have ever had’,” he shared.

Mohammad Fathi said the programme carried a powerful message of compassion, humanity and solidarity, highlighting how small acts of kindness can bring hope and comfort to vulnerable communities.

He said it also demonstrated how collaboration between academic institutions, local communities and international students can create meaningful humanitarian impact while nurturing the spirit of volunteerism among young people.

“We hope that similar initiatives could continue in the future, reaching more communities in need, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan.

“Behind a simple iftar meal, this programme showed that sometimes, a person’s happiness only requires a little attention, time, and sincere care from hearts that truly care,” he added.
