Trump appoints widow of slain activist to Air Force Academy board

President Trump names Erika Kirk, widow of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, to the advisory board of the US Air Force Academy.

WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump has appointed the widow of assassinated right-wing activist Charlie Kirk to the advisory board of the US Air Force Academy.

The appointment of Erika Kirk was reported by US media, with White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales telling USA Today that the president made the perfect choice.

Her late husband, a staunch Trump ally, was shot dead at age 31 during an event on a college campus last September.

The US Air Force Academy’s Board of Visitors provides advice on the institution’s running to the president and the secretary of war.

The board, to which Kirk was appointed as a presidential member, paid tribute to Charlie Kirk during its last meeting in December.

It remembered his commitment to advancing the Air Force Academy and inspiring the next generation of service members.

President Trump posthumously awarded Charlie Kirk America’s highest civilian honour following his death.

Trump hailed the activist as a martyr for truth and freedom, sparking an outpouring of grief among conservatives at the time.
