Malaysian activists Zamri Vinoth and Arun Dorasamy will be charged in separate courts for statements allegedly causing public mischief.
KUALA LUMPUR: Activist and rally coordinator Zamri Vinoth will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
His lawyer, Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla, confirmed the proceedings before Magistrate Faezahnoor Hassan.
Zamri Vinoth faces a charge under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for statements made at a gathering on Feb 7.
The charge relates to statements allegedly conducing to public mischief with intent to cause public fear or alarm.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail previously confirmed Zamri Vinoth had fled to Thailand.
Police efforts to track him down are being conducted with assistance from Thai authorities.
Meanwhile, activist Arun Dorasamy will be charged at the Jawi Magistrate’s Court in Penang.
Arun confirmed he will also face a charge under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code.
His case follows a police report lodged in Batu Kawan related to issues involving temples in Rawang and Dengkil.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers issued instructions for the charges after reviewing investigation papers.
