An 11-year-old Colorado boy is formally charged with first-degree murder in the death of his younger brother, with juvenile records sealed
CENTENNIAL: An 11-year-old boy has been formally charged with first-degree murder in the death of his five-year-old brother.
The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office confirmed the charge on Tuesday, stating the boy was “arrested for killing his 5-year-old brother.”
The younger boy was found dead at a home in this Denver suburb on March 11.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office had previously identified the suspect as the victim’s brother.
“Our hearts go out to the family of these two young boys and to everyone in our community who is grieving this loss,” Sheriff Tyler Brown said.
He added that cases involving child homicides are among the most difficult for investigators.
Precise details of the alleged crime have not been released to the public.
Colorado law seals juvenile case records, limiting the information authorities can disclose.
“Because both the victim and the suspect are minors, the information we release will be limited,” the sheriff’s office stated last week.
The cause of death remains under investigation by authorities.
