Melaka police bust online sex scam syndicate, arrest 15

Melaka police detained 15 individuals, including 13 Chinese nationals, in a raid on an online sex scam call centre targeting Taiwanese victims.

MELAKA: Police have dismantled an online sex scam syndicate following the arrest of 15 individuals in Kampung Lapan, Tengkera.

Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit said the suspects, comprising two Malaysians and 13 Chinese nationals, were detained last Thursday.

He said the syndicate is believed to have operated a call centre running bogus sex service scams targeting victims in Taiwan.

Investigations revealed the 13 Chinese nationals, including one woman, entered Malaysia on tourist passes and had been in Melaka since early March.

Police seized 13 computers, 40 mobile phones, and two passports during the raid, with the total seizure valued at approximately RM85,000.

All suspects have been remanded for four days to assist investigations under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

They are also being investigated under Sections 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Patit advised the public to remain vigilant against any services offered online.

Information related to online scam syndicates can be reported to the Commercial Crime Investigation Department hotline at 011-2111222.
