MOE directs schools to postpone outdoor activities in extreme heat

The Education Ministry has issued hot weather guidelines for schools, including postponing outdoor activities above 35°C and ensuring adequate drinking water supplies.

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has directed all schools under its purview to enhance preparedness for hot weather ahead of the new term. Key measures include postponing all outdoor activities if temperatures exceed 35°C.

Schools must also monitor any activities that could expose students to hot conditions to safeguard their health. Institutions are instructed to ensure an adequate supply of clean drinking water.

“Institutions must ensure an adequate supply of clean drinking water and encourage students to consume sufficient fluids to regulate body temperature,” the MOE stated. The ministry emphasised that boarding schools must provide water to students in critical situations where no other sources are available.

Schools are also told to remain vigilant by coordinating with nearby clinics and hospitals in case of heat-related health complications. Depending on prevailing conditions, school management may allow students and staff to wear appropriate sports attire during hot weather.

The ministry stressed that all institutions must stay alert to current weather conditions and comply with issued guidelines. The new term begins on Monday, March 30, following the mid-term holidays.

Group A states, comprising Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, are on holiday until March 28. Group B states, including Melaka, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, and the Federal Territories, are on holiday until March 29.
