Melaka’s chief minister calls on agricultural entrepreneurs to adopt IoT and AI to boost productivity, quality, and market competitiveness
ALOR GAJAH: Entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector must optimise modern technology to enhance their productivity and marketability. Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh (pic) said adopting tools like the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence modernises operations and develops competitive downstream products.
He stated such technologies enable automated production processes without continuous monitoring. This improves efficiency, reduces labour costs and increases overall output.
“In the agricultural sector, we find that new technologies introduced in the Gadek area can be further highlighted and modernised to expand the marketability of products,” he told reporters. He was speaking after a community entrepreneurship programme for the Gadek state constituency.
Ab Rauf cited tilapia farming as a prime example where IoT combined with AI allows for automatic control. Systems can manage feeding, water levels and pH balance without the need for close human supervision.
He emphasised that producing quality basic products through technology must be paired with downstream development. Developing processed, packaged and branded goods enhances product value and market competitiveness.
“If this technology is properly promoted, it can produce goods that are better marketed, including in downstream sectors,” he said. The state government pledged continued support for entrepreneurs through guidance and mentor-mentee initiatives.
This support aims to ensure businesses can adapt to technology and expand to a higher level. “We will guide, educate and assist these entrepreneurs as best as possible,” Ab Rauf added.
He said the adopted technology should also serve as a reference for the younger generation. This approach aims to encourage ventures into modern agriculture while strengthening the national agri-food ecosystem.
