President Trump cites security concerns for Vice President Vance not attending the Iran talks in Pakistan, contradicting earlier statements from top officials.

WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump has stated that Vice President JD Vance will not lead the US delegation for new talks with Iran in Pakistan.

Trump cited security concerns as the reason for Vance not making the trip during an interview with ABC News on Sunday.

The announcement directly contradicts earlier indications from top US officials about the delegation’s leadership.

Both US envoy to the United Nations Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright had earlier indicated Vance would lead the negotiations in Islamabad from Monday.

“It’s only because of security,” Trump told ABC News of the reason Vance is not making the trip, adding, “JD’s great.”
