GEORGE TOWN: Lone Pine Group has reaffirmed that its proposed wellness suites and public park development in Tanjung Bungah have received all necessary approvals from the relevant state and local authorities.
Company spokesman Ooi Sheng Long said the project had secured planning, environmental, social and traffic impact assessment approvals in line with existing laws and regulations.
“The project has been planned and approved through the proper channels. All plans have been reviewed and endorsed by the relevant departments,” he told theSun.
Ooi said the company began engaging residents in April 2023, proposing the formation of a sub-committee to facilitate dialogue and provide regular updates.
“We remain ready to work with this sub-committee to share information or clarification about the project, as we believe such engagement helps build trust and foster a spirit of collaboration among all parties,” he said.
He added that the party initially contacted has yet to respond to the invitation and expressed hope that residents will appoint representatives to engage directly with the firm to address any concerns.khor
The wellness suite development will be built on Lot 4658, a 1.5-acre reclaimed parcel next to the One Tanjong condominium, which Lone Pine Group previously developed.
As part of its corporate social responsibility initiative, the developer will also create and maintain a public park, including part of the beach, on the adjoining state land.
“We do not take the park project lightly. Our aim is to create a public park that can genuinely serve the community while preserving the area’s existing landscape and biodiversity,” Ooi said.
He noted that the company was granted permission by the Penang State Urban and Country Planning Department between May and July to carry out preliminary works, including hoarding, land clearing and earthworks, pending further state-level review.
Despite the ongoing appeal against the planning permission, Lone Pine Group said it remains committed to dialogue and to delivering a project aligned with the state’s long-term vision for balanced and sustainable urban growth. – by T.C. Khor
